International Workshop on New Renewable Energy to be held on the 3rd

With the 2013 World Energy Congress confirmed to be held in Daegu, there has been unprecedented interest in low-carbon green Growth. 

 Yeungnam University (president Tong-ki Woo) will be holding an international workshop under the subject \'Roles of Companies and Colleges for configuring a Low-Carbon Green Growth Society\' at the international conference center on the 2nd floor of Gyeongbuk TP from 1pm on the 3rd (Wed).

 This workshop is hosted by Yeungnam University and sponsored by Yeungnam University\'s \'Daegyeong Solar Cell/Module Material Process Local Innovation Center\' and the \'Research Institute of Solar Energy\', \'Research Institute of Bio-Energy\', \'BK21 Display Materials and Process Engineering Program - Advanced HR Fostering Project\', \'NURI Display Industry Work Force Cultivation Team\', etc. This workshop will examine the trends of the green energy technologies to solve global warming and exhaustion of coal resources, as well as trends of the new renewable energy technologies such as solar cells, fuel cells, wind energy and bio-energy, while also sharing directions of possible new policies. Yeungnam University expects that this will help accelerate discussions on the roles of companies and colleges for configuring a low-carbon green growth society.

 In this event, domestic energies experts such as Jeong Chang-hyeon (manager at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Department of New Renewable Energy), Shin Seong-cheol (Korea Institute of Energy and Resources Technology Evaluation and Planning), Park Seong-hwan (director of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Economy and Science Promotion Department) and Lee Sang-cheol (CEO of Millinetsolar), and as well as prominent foreign scholars such as Timothy J. Coutts (National New Renewable Energy Research Center and winner of the \'Cherry Award\', which is the world\'s highest award in the solar cell sector), Gavin Conibeer (vice-dean of the solar cell and renewable energy engineering department at UNSW of Australia), Philip H. Steele (professor of bio-engineering at Mississippi State University) and Ganti S. Murthy (professor at Oregon State University).

 Park Jin-ho (50), professor at Yeungnam University School of Display and Chemical Engineering, planned this workshop. He stated, \"this international workshop was planned to be a place for exchanging information and establishing a network for the industry and academic circles in various sectors of the low-carbon green growth technologies\" and also added, \"Yeungnam University is planning to draw the base plans for fostering expert human resources in R&D and academic cooperative education for the new renewable energy sector, while also establishing an \'Energy University\'.\"
